For the symbolic meaning of the white band around the centre see no. 103 above. The unusually wide and expansive compressed sphere of this bottle adds greatly to its impact and it is a classic example of the Chinese genius for creating great sculptural forms, within the small medium of the snuff bottle, by the skilful use of the natural patterns within the material, couples with faultless craftsmanship.
