Chalcedony; supported on a shallow foot rim with broad edges, a natural inclusion on front edited to reveal a bird perched on a rocky bank beneath the branches of a tree, Official School.
1750-1850
6.2cm
Provenance:
Hugh Moss (1978)
A classic example of the edited, or silhouette school, with the inclusions skilfully carved in the centre to reveal the bird, thus converting what would otherwise have simply been a dark splash into a meaningful subject.
