Cinnabar lacquer; deeply carved on a dark green diaper background with a man and woman in court robes standing in front of a pavilion flanked by pine trees and rocks, an assistant offering a tray with a teapot, the reverse with a figure in a conical hat resting on his haunches beside a tethered horses to watch a boy carrying boxes and a qin attached to a pole on his shoulders, the mouth and foot applied with gilt-bronze fittings, Imperial workshops, Beijing.
Agate; the pear-shaped body with a tall neck surmounted by a lipped rim with a wide mouth, supported on a neatly carved foot rim of oval section with rounded edges, the shoulders carved with mask and ring handles, the body suffused with parallel bands of differing colour encircling the lower part and the shoulders, very well hollowed, attributed to the Beijing Palace workshops.
Glass; of flattened pear shape and lime-green colour with a narrow mouth, carved on each shoulder with a chilong clambering up towards the neck, each with a broad flat head resting on the front and reverse, their tails interlocked to form the foot rim, attributed to the Imperial glassworks, Beijing.
Porcelain; decorated in underglaze-blue and white on one side with two crabs and a spray of millet and on the reverse with a pair of magpies perched on the branches of a willow tree, the shoulders moulded with elaborate taotie masks suspending rings, the base inscribed Yun shi zhi, ‘Made by the Rock Weeder’, Jingdezhen kilns.
