Description
Chalcedony; suffused with green moss-like inclusions on one side and almost clear on the reverse, the slightly concave lip with a small mouth, very well hollowed and Supported on a flattened base, Official School.
This type of chalcedony, filled with natural moss like inclusions, became popular after the conquest of Xinjiang in 1759 opened up supplies from India. This bottle shows off the patterns to perfection, aided by the extensive hollowing which allows the light to be transmitted through the body. The flattened ovoid shape exerts an impressive sculptural quality. Two very similar bottles are discussed in Treasury 2, nos. 199 and 220.
