5.5 cm

Provenance:

Odawara Shoten, Tokyo (1971)

Description

Glass; of ovoid shape with a small flat base, the deep red body ‘suffused with yellow dapples imitating realgar.

This bottle represents the classic style of realgar glass with a dense reddish tone suffused with yellow dapples, a type recorded since the early eighteenth century. The visual interest is provided by a small yellow splash in the centre, filled with red, perhaps an echo of the corona during a solar eclipse.
