Description
Glass; the ovoid body resting on a flat base, the orange body overlaid with a layer of clear glass splashed with vivid orange dapples.
This bottle is a mixture of two techniques, that of sandwiching a colour between two colourless layers and that of rolling glass fragments into the outer surface. It creates an impression of scattered coloured clouds rolling across the sky and is visually extremely effective in bringing a sense of movement to the pattern. The colouring recalls that of the realgar series (see no. 26) and several examples of this type have been recorded, possibly all made at the same time, Treasury 5, no. 736.
