Description

Porcelain; enamelled with five scaly dragons chasing flaming pearls on an incised wave ground, Jingdezhen kilns.

The incised wave ground was created by coating the body in a white slip, which was then decorated with an iron tip. The technique was developed on porcelain during the fifteenth century and became particularly popular during the eighteenth century as a background for famille-rose enamel decoration, when it was developed by Tang Yin, the celebrated head of the Imperial kilns between 1728-1756. This stye is fairly rare on snuff bottles.
