Porcelain with iron red enamel and various seals

1820 – 1870

7.7 cm

Provenance: Hugh Moss (1974)

Description

Porcelain; enamelled in iron-red with a collection of various seals, Jingdezhen kilns.

Iron-red enamel is a particularly good medium for the painting of intricate detail as it is substantially thinner than the fused powders required for famille-rose enamels. It is ideally suited for the intricate details of the seals on this bottle, which have been painted with unusual precision and crispness.
